Comfort Analysis

Applications - Comfort Analysis

The human body itself causes a variety of boundary conditions, changing continuously by different activities independent of the actual environment. Lot's of other complex conditions influence a meaningful comfort assessment. In the past, only stationary global comfort indices have been used to predict thermal comfort.

With THESEUS-FE, full transient local comfort assessment of passengers and the complete metabolic heat balance including blood circulation, vasoconstriction, vasodilatation, sweating, shivering, respiration, and evaporation of the human being as well as certain other complex environmental parameters can be determined.

Different static and transient indices are available to predict and analyse thermal comfort either overall or locally:

Due to our experience, we are a leading provider of virtual thermal manikins and passenger comfort case studies either in steady-state or fully transient environments. Our recently fully implemented new virtual manikin called "FIALA-FE" provides all thermo-physiological effects of the human body model published in the frequently cited PhD thesis of 1998. Dr. Dusan Fiala supported our team during the implementation of his theories. After many months of coding and validation, the results for the manikin computed with THESEUS-FE reached a very good correlation to a large number of diagrams shown in literature. A detailed documentation of our validations can be found in the new "FIALA-FE Validation Manual".

A recently published paper regarding the implementation of the FIALA-FE model is available here.

The number of virtual manikins used within the model to be examined (for example 4 in a standard passenger car, 60 in an aeroplane prototype) is only limited by your hardware resources.
